Welcome To The Lessons Page

A place for beginning-to-intermediate
players to
understand my approach to
teaching
guitar
My approach to teaching guitar is to start with a thorough overview of the "anatomy" of a guitar.
The purpose of all the various parts, general maintenance, string changing and tuning. If a student
is planning to play electric we also cover basic amp protocol (don't unplug the guitar with the
volume on 10!) and the role of volume, EQ, reverb settings etc.

Musically, I focus on chords, initially (as opposed to scales), and move to 'bar' chords rather
quickly. For right hand technique, we start with a flat pick, to focus on rhythm and specific
strumming technique ie. 4/4 and 3/4 variations using a "bass beat - and - strum beat" technique.

If the student is playing acoustic and/or interested in finger style technique we explore basic
patterns after just a few weeks.

Lessons are typically 45 minutes and cost $25. If interested
